Setup guide

You're in. Here's how to set up

Thanks for your purchase! Access is tied to the email address you bought with. One purchase unlocks both the Chrome extension and the Android app.

Chrome extension

  1. Install it from the Chrome Web Store (skip if already installed).
  2. Click the extension icon, press Start, then choose Continue with Google or Email me a sign-in link. Either opens a sign-in tab on this site; finish there and it hands you back to the extension.
  3. If you've just paid and it doesn't unlock straight away, press "I've paid, check again".
  4. Fill in your details (see Fine-tune your search), then press Start again. Keep a tab open on the DVSA booking site.

It only searches while that tab is open, and stops as soon as it alerts you.

Android app

  1. Download the APK on your phone.
  2. Open the downloaded file and allow installing from this source ("sideloading"). A Play Protect warning is normal for apps installed outside the Play Store, so tap Install anyway.
  3. Open the app, press Start, then either Continue with Google or type your email address and choose Email me a sign-in link. Either way, use the address you purchased with.
  4. Fill in your details (see Fine-tune your search), then press Start again.

Signing in by emailed link needs no Google account at all. Open the link on the same phone you asked for it from. Continuing with Google instead needs Google Play services (any normal Android phone has it).

Fine-tune your search

The extension popup and the app's home screen use the same settings:

  • Driving-licence number. Fills the booking form automatically.
  • Test-centre area. One postcode area to search around, e.g. IG1.
  • Focus centres. Add specific centres to search only those. Leave empty to search every centre in the area.
  • Ignore centres. Add centres to skip, even if they have a slot.
  • Date range. The earliest date defaults to today and updates itself daily; turn that off to fix it instead. You always set the latest date yourself.
  • Time window. An earliest and latest time of day. Leave it at 00:00 to 23:59 to accept any time.

Search timing (how many centres it checks before pausing, how long it waits between sweeps) is tunable too, in Settings. The defaults work for almost everyone; only touch it if you have a reason to.

While it's watching

Press Start and the status line tells you what's happening: watching, searching, no match yet, or, if the DVSA site needs attention, blocked or asking you to solve a security check.

Stuck on a security check? The reload icon just reloads the page; the clear-cache icon clears cookies and cached data for the booking site, which usually clears it. A match outside your time window doesn't stop the search; it keeps looking for one that fits.

When a slot is found

You'll get a loud alert, with the slot open on the DVSA page (the silence icon mutes it without dismissing the alert). From that point it's over to you: check the date, centre and time, then submit and pay on the DVSA site as you normally would. The DVSA gives you 15 minutes to finish once a slot is selected, so don't leave it. More on what it does and doesn't do.

Bought with a different email?

Sign-in must use the email address you entered at checkout. If you used a different address by mistake, email us from the address on your Stripe receipt and we'll move the purchase: helperdrivingtest@gmail.com
