Privacy policy
The short version: the searching happens on your device, so the things you would most mind us holding never reach us at all.
What we collect and why
- Your email address. Collected when you sign in, either from your Google account or from the address you ask us to email a sign-in link to. Used solely to link your purchase to your account so the extension and app can unlock. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (UK GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
- Purchase records. Your email, a reference to your Stripe payment, and the devices you've activated.
- Payments. Processed entirely by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
- Anonymous usage analytics. Coarse, anonymous usage data via Google Analytics. No browsing history, no personal details, and nothing you type into the DVSA site.
What we never collect
DVSA credentials, chosen test centres, date and time preferences, the slots it finds, and everything else you enter on the booking site stay in your own browser or device storage. None of it is ever transmitted to us, and we have no copy of any of it.
Your driving-licence number is the one exception. Each purchase can be used with up to 2 licence numbers, and we check against that limit so a single purchase can't be resold and run through an endless stream of other people's licence numbers. We never store the number itself. What we keep is a hashed version of it, which can't be turned back into the licence number, even by us.
Where data lives
Purchase records are stored in the US, under standard contractual safeguards for international transfers. Stripe stores payment records under its own UK and EU safeguards.
How long we keep it
Your account and purchase record last as long as your access does, and go immediately if you delete the account, apart from the anonymous record described below. Stripe keeps its own transaction records for as long as UK tax and anti-fraud rules require. Analytics events expire on Google Analytics' own schedule.
Deleting your account
In the Android app, open Settings → Account → Delete account. This is immediate and permanent: it removes your sign-in details and your email address from our records.
One thing survives it: a record that a payment happened, matched to your email but not stored as your email, so it can't be read back to your name or address. We keep it because we're required to keep a record of sales, and because Stripe holds the full transaction regardless of what we delete. It also means deleting your account doesn't just waste your purchase: sign in again with the same email and access comes straight back, instead of paying twice.
If you'd rather we erased that record as well, email us and say so.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion of your data at any time, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Write to helperdrivingtest@gmail.com and we'll respond within one month.
If you think we've got it wrong, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or why, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes get a plain statement of what changed rather than a silent edit.
